Even though Twitch and YouTube have been in the streaming business for quite a long time, Kick has taken over the industry with waves.
Apart from bagging some popular and renowned streamers, Kick has now overtaken its rival Twitch in terms of key demographics. Founded in 2022, Kick has been focusing on taking over its main rival, Twitch, and brining the purple platforms’ talent over.
Well, the rivalry is something that has been heating up for a while now, and with Kick taking over its rivals in terms of viewership, Kick has been on clouds. Recently, Kick co-founder Bijan Tehrani took a shot at Twitch after revealing how his platform overtook its rival in a key demographic.
On October 28, 2024, Tehrani shared a screenshot of viewership stats on x, revealing that in the past seven days, Kick had overtaken its rival in Spanish-speaking viewership.
Tehrani wrote, “The WestCol effect.”
The caption is a direct reference to the Colombian streamer who broke Adin Ross’s record during his stream with President Donald Trump with one million people tuning in. At the time of writing, Twitch has not replied to the troll yet.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see how the red platform takes this criticism.
Kick vs. Twitch vs. YouTube: The rivalry of streaming platforms
For the uninitiated, Kick is a video livestreaming platform operated by Kick Streaming Pty Ltd. Despite being quite new in the market, it successfully attracted a large array of users and streamers. The green platform offers new, better ways for new streamers to start their streaming journey without getting overshadowed by other prominent personalities.
So, in simpler words, the platform works in a favorable revenue-sharing model, which lets influencers keep a larger portion of their earnings relative to alternative platforms. While Twitch has long been the go-to for streamers, Kick provides a fresh alternative that focuses well on new creators as well.
That’s not all; the platform even provides a clean and simple layout so that even non-tech-savvy people can access it without any hassle. Many well-to-do streamers, including xQc, Amouranth, Sam Pepper, Adin Ross, Hikaru, and more, joined Kick since its inception.
