The much-awaited trailer of Season 2 of House of the Dragon, a prequel to the universally loved Game of Thrones, is out! And it is FIRE… literally! The trailer issues a stark warning in the sneak peek of House of the Dragon season 2 against the brutality and bloodshed that a conflict between dragons or one between kins would cause.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood”, the series which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen. Watch the trailer here:
“Many Will Die”
The start of the trailer shows a glimpse into the aftermath of the heartbreaking season 1 finale. A grief-stricken Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, portrayed by Eve Best, stands amid ash-stained surroundings at Dragonstone Castle visibly mourning the death of her son, Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault), at the hands of Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) during a dragonback battle.
Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) forewarns of the impending war’s toll, “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.” Meanwhile, Rhaenyra’s husband and uncle, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), appears poised for vengeance in his battle attire.
House of the Dragon, led by showrunner Ryan Condal, delves into the Dance of the Dragons, a devastating conflict from Westeros history. Season 1 laid the foundation for the impending turmoil: Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne was contested by Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) and his supporters, who backed Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney). Lucerys’s demise served as a catalyst, setting the stage for the impending war.
“House of the Dragon” Season 1 drew nearly 10 million viewers when it debuted, marking HBO’s biggest series premiere in history. As expected, an early renewal was announced and the trailer now reveals the timeline of Season 2: Summer 2024.
