The Australian Cricket Awards for 2024 saw the notable winners being Mitchell Marsh and Ashleigh Gardner. Marsh became the second all-rounder after Shane Watson to win the Allan Border Medal. Shane Watson won the same in 2011. Meanwhile, Gardner secured her second overall Belinda Clark Award.
With 223 votes, Marsh was 79 votes ahead of Pat Cummins, who also had an amazing year. With 147 votes, Gardner defeated Ellyse Perry (134 votes) and Annabel Sutherland (106 votes) to win the race.
Marsh had an outstanding year overall, beginning with his 118 in the third Ashes Test following his absence from the previous two, and scored a career-best 177* against Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup. Gardner picked more wickets than any of her colleagues throughout the qualifying period (56 scalps at 19.39 in 30 matches), with her numbers against England being 12 for 165, the second-best in women’s Test history.
Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year went to Nathan Lyon, who took his 500th wicket in Test cricket and helped Australia win the Indore Test.
Ellyse Perry earned the Women’s T20I Player of the Year and the Women’s ODI Player of the Year, thanks to a recent upsurge in her batting.
Marsh won the Men’s ODI Player of the Year award in addition to excelling as an opener and one-down player in the white-ball formats. Player of the Year for Men’s T20I went to Jason Behrendorff.
