According to a report by Portuguese news outlet Maisfutebol, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has surpassed Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to become the most-searched athlete of 2023 in Portugal.
According to a recent announcement from the search engine, Ronaldo was the athlete who received the most searches on Google for the previous 25 years. Most fans weren’t surprised by this because of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s substantial online following. With more than 614 million followers, he is the most followed celebrity on Instagram.
Alongside Lionel Messi, the Portugal star is also perhaps one of the all-time greats in football history. The 38-year-old is still going strong for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League and has won 35 major trophies in his illustrious career.
However, Enzo Fernandez surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of searches in 2023, according to the previously mentioned report that was based on Google’s data. The Argentine’s January transfer from Benfica to Chelsea, for a rumored £106.8 million transfer fee, may be the primary cause.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has made 40 appearances across all competitions, but hasn’t had much of an impact at Stamford Bridge thus far. He has three goals and three assists.
