“Best in history”: Casper Ruud bluntly compares young sensation Jannik Sinner to legendary Novak Djokovic

After having a legendary season, Jannik Sinner has become a new fan favorite. After bagging the ATP Finals without even dropping a single set, the Italian has scripted history. With such impressive gameplay, it is natural that fans are drawing comparisons between him and another legendary player such as the 24-time Grand Slam title champion Novak Djokovic.

When asked the same question, Casper Ruud explained the difference between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. As per the current World No. 7, both these players have different styles and play, and it looks similar only on television.

Casper Ruud said, “I mean, I think on TV it looks probably similar the way they play. But Jannik hits a faster ball than Novak. He doesn’t let you breathe. With Novak you can play rallies. Not going to say easier to play Novak because he’s the best in history.

Continuing a train of thoughts, he further added, “At least with Novak you can play more rallies and not be terrified of Novak ripping, like, a bomb down the line or cross-court or these things.”

He further talked about how he doesn’t really like to draw comparisons between players, as everyone has their own style. While praising Sinner, the Norwegian player even opened up about getting his a** kicked by the World No. 1 during practice sessions.

He concluded, “I don’t necessarily like to compare players because everyone has their own style. For me, you don’t realize how fast Jannik plays unless you watch him play live and you’re there in the stadium. On the TV, it’s not fair, the speed.”

Jannik Sinner wins the 2024 ATP Finals

Jannik Sinner has done it again as the Italian added another big title to his name for the 2024 season. After bagging the year-end World No. 1 trophy, Sinner managed to beat the U.S. Open runner-up Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday before his home fans.

Sinner laid out three important steps to have a good balance when it comes to these crucial moments in life. This includes keeping calm, having a good connection with his coach and other team members, and, of course, being relaxed but serious at the same time.

After the tremendous win, when asked about how he is planning to defend his Australian Open title next year, Sinner said, “I mean, in the same way as I did this year… keeping calm, having my connection with my team, taking it seriously but also relaxed, in both ways. You need to have a good balance. Then we see how it goes. There are going to be many, many first times in our life. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Grand Slam or something else.

That’s not all; as per the current World No. 1 himself, he doesn’t really know how things are going to happen in Melbourne for the 2025 Australian Open, but he is ready to give his 100% and prepare in the best possible way.

With that being said, do you think the young talent can defend his Australian Open trophy? Well, only time will tell.
