Veteran Tag Team Opens Up About Their Instant Success in WWE After 2 Decades in Independent Circuit

The SmackDown tag team division is thriving right now, and most of the credit goes to the Motor City Machine Guns. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are veterans of the wrestling industry, having hustled for nearly 20 years on the independent circuit. They debuted almost a year ago and have since changed the landscape of the tag team division on the blue brand.

Shelley and Sabin talked about their quick success in the Stamford-based company during an interview on ComicBook Nation. The former World Tag Team Champions stated that their two decades of hard work had finally paid off, and they intended to continue that success in the future. The dynamic duo also advised the younger generation to keep hustling for what they truly want in life.

They made their WWE debut on the October 18th edition of SmackDown. After just three matches and two weeks, they won the tag titles from The Bloodline. When asked about their future goals, Sabin stated that winning the tag titles again has always been their objective. The duo got a great chance to do that when they clashed with DIY and the current champions, The Street Profits.

On the SmackDown after WrestleMania, the three teams met in a Triple Threat TLC match for the titles. Many fans were disappointed that they didn’t get to witness the match at WrestleMania 41. All three teams gave it their all and delivered one of the match-of-the-year contenders. MCMG and DIY put on a spectacular performance, but Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins retained their tag titles.

Motor City Machine Guns talked about their dream matches after inclusion in WWE 2K25

MCMG was one of the teams included in a DLC pack for the WWE 2K25 video game. They were featured alongside Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, and one surprise celebrity character. Both Sabin and Shelley are big fans of video games and talked about who they would like to face in the game.

While speaking in the same interview, Sabin stated that he was excited about the intergender mode. He said they wanted to face Alundra Blayze and Molly Holly. Meanwhile, Shelley named the Brothers of Destruction, The New Day, and The Usos as their dream opponents. Both stars were happy about their inclusion in the game and excited to play it.

“Oh, I know exactly what match I am going to make. It’s going to be the Motor City Machine Guns versus Alundra Blayze and Molly Holly. You can do intergender matches now.”

MCMG admitted that Triple H was the main reason they wanted to join WWE. Sabin revealed that they spoke directly to Hunter, and the treatment they received from him was the ultimate dealmaker. The veteran duo wanted to become important players under the 14-time World Champion’s leadership. Seeing how things are going, the future certainly looks bright for them.
