Teenage boy dies while attempting real-life Subway Surfing TikTok challenge

Subway Surfer has been one of the most popular games worldwide. Running in-between the train tracks while being chased sounds pretty fascinating to everyone.

However, a TikTok challenge that was pretty much inspired by the same concept has gone viral, with many users uploading their version of the challenge on the app. While attempting the real-life subway surfing challenge, 13-year-old Adolfo Sanabria Soronzo died on October 23, 2024, and was found unconscious at the Forest Avenue Subway station in Ridgewood. As per reports, the teen was trying the challenge on M train in Queens, New York.

For the uninitiated, this popular challenge, which has gone viral on TikTok and Instagram, challenges the participant to ride on top of the moving train, much like the subway surfer game.

Those who participate in this challenge take a video of themselves riding on top of a train by exiting the carriage right where it connects to the next carriage. Soronzo’s mother, Milene Soronzo, brutally slammed the challenge and even called it awful. Additionally, she has also made a GoFundMe to help raise money for her son’s funeral.

She wrote in a statement, “It is with a broken heart that I ask for your support in this painful time. My son Adolfo Sanabria Sorzano, only 13 years old, tragically lost his life while he was doing this awful TikTok challenge subway surfing in New York City.

She added, “Adolfo was a child full of life, with dreams and hopes, and his passing has left a void that is impossible to fill.”

Notably, this isn’t the first tragedy that has happened due to the challenge. Another 15-year-old boy named Zackery Nazario died while performing the same challenge. Following the traic incidents, Demetrius Crichlow urged users, especially young teens, to stay away from the challenge. He said, “I implore anyone who thinks surfing trains is a game and parents, friends, and teachers who can persuade them otherwise to understand the deadly risk and ride inside.”

At the time of writing, the challenge is still accessible to teenagers and other TikTok users.
