Sam Curran’s celebration after hitting half-century against his former team Punjab Kings sparks controversy

CSK’s batting woes continued in their match against Punjab Kings, as the young openers failed to impress. With wickets falling around him, Sam Curran became a hero for the Yellow Army and smashed 88 runs in just 47 balls against his former team. However, his gesture after hitting a fifty sent many fans into a state of confusion and disbelief.

After Shaik Rasheed, Ayush Mhatre, and Ravindra Jadeja got out early, Curran and Dewald Brevis steadied CSK’s innings. The English left-hander batted well and brought up his half-century in the 15th over. He celebrated by aggressively waving his bat around and signaling someone to call him. It was a message to the CSK dugout, implying that he wanted to play a more important role in his team’s success.

Curran was dismissed in the 18th over by Marco Jansen as Josh Inglis took his catch. As he walked off, the England star unleashed a fiery outburst, gesturing angrily, and was seen firing off words at the PBKS dugout, a team he once led as captain. The gesture was caught on camera, sparking speculations about his unresolved tensions with PBKS. Curran’s visible annoyance added another layer of controversy.

For those unaware, he also has a hat-trick to his name while playing for the Punjab Kings. Speaking about the match itself, the five-time champions posted a total of 190, which could’ve been much higher if not for PBKS’ bowlers’ amazing performance. Shreyas Iyer and co. chased the target pretty easily, thanks to him and Prabhsimran Singh’s fifties. Although CSK is now out of the tournament, Curran would love to leave a lasting impact with a performance like this.

Sam Curran proved commentator Akash Chopra wrong with his performance against Punjab Kings

Despite Curran’s incredible performance against PBKS, commentator Aakash Chopra was against his inclusion in the team ahead of the match. He had a different opinion regarding Curran’s performance this season and wanted to include a veteran foreign player instead of him.

While giving an analysis of the match between CSK and PBKS on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that he failed to understand why the left-hander was still in the team. He further added that Curran should be replaced by the veteran Kiwi batter, Devon Conway.

However, Curran proved him wrong by scoring the highest individual score by a CSK batsman this season. Although, as a bowler, he hasn’t taken any wickets yet. But he might prove everyone wrong once again if given more chances. CSK’s next match is against their rivals, RCB, and he would love to take revenge for their loss earlier in the season.
