“It’s a statement to all teams” RCB clinches top 2 spot by chasing record target against LSG

This was an important match for RCB to win, as a victory would have secured their top-two spot. Jitesh Sharma was once again captaining the franchise and decided to field first after winning the toss. Nuwan Thusara opened the bowling and successfully took the wicket of debutant Matthew Breetzke. However, what followed was a one-sided carnage from the LSG batters.

Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant decided to earn the money he was given for this season in the final match. He looked like his old self after a long time, and it didn’t matter whether one was a Lucknow fan or an RCB fan—everyone was happy to see him back in form. LSG’s highest run-scorer, Mitchell Marsh, once again showed his class by scoring his 7th fifty of the season. Thanks to Pant’s exceptional century, they posted a total of 228 runs.

The Bengaluru side had to break their record for the highest-ever run chase. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt provided the team with a good start, as always. Even after the Englishman got out, scoring 30 off just 19 balls, the RCB batters kept the run rate going. The three-time finalists did run into trouble when William O’Rourke dismissed both Rajat Patidar and Liam Livingstone in the span of two balls.

King Kohli continued his imperious form, scoring his eighth half-century of the season. However, even though he couldn’t stay till the end, all the responsibility fell on Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. When 39 runs were needed in the last 4 overs, Digvesh Rathi managed to get the RCB captain out twice, but both times he survived. Sharma was given the Man of the Match award for scoring 85 runs off just 33 balls and helping register the highest run chase in the team’s history.

However, RCB made it possible and successfully chased down their highest-ever target in IPL history. While some fans were very happy and satisfied with their performance, others felt there was still some work that needed to be done.

One fan stated that it was a statement win for the Bengaluru side. Another fan just couldn’t believe the blunders LSG committed in the fielding department and even called the match fixed. Many fans said that RCB were breaking records this season and noted that they became the first team to win all seven away games. Here are some of the top reactions from fans:

One user was impressed with Jitesh’s innings and said they should build a statue of him outside Chinnaswamy. Another user appreciated RCB’s consistency in winning seven away matches.
