WATCH: Shubman Gill engages in a heated exchange with umpires during Gujarat Titan’s match against SRH

Despite GT moving into second position on the points table after defeating SRH, captain Shubman Gill had a pretty rough day. If GT weren’t in last place on the fair play list, his antics might have deducted more points from the 2022 IPL champions. He had a word with the umpires twice in yesterday’s match.

The first occasion came when he was batting. Gill continued his extraordinary form and scored his fifth half-century of the season. However, as he was batting on 76 runs off just 38 balls, a small misunderstanding with his partner, Jos Buttler, cost him his wicket. Although the replay showed he was out of the crease when the ball hit the bails, he wasn’t ready to accept it and claimed that the bails fell because of Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves.

Gill was even seen arguing with the umpires near the dugout, refusing to believe how he was dismissed. But his scuffle with them didn’t stop there. Another incident occurred when Abhishek Sharma was saved by an umpire’s call decision after an LBW appeal from the Titans. This did not please Shubman one bit, and he was seen engaged in quite an animated chat with the on-field umpires.

Things got so intense that at one point, Sharma had to step in to calm his friend down. It was later realized that there was a glitch with the ball-tracker, as it didn’t show where the ball had pitched. Gill was visibly dissatisfied with the decision and was seen shaking his head throughout. Ultimately, it all turned out well, as he led his team to victory by 38 runs.

Shubman Gill sends a message on social media after their team’s comeback win

GT returned to winning ways after suffering a crushing defeat against the Rajasthan Royals. Vaibhav Suryavanshi played the innings of his life, scoring 101 runs off just 38 balls. He smashed all the bowlers around the park and single-handedly took the game away from Gill’s team.

Now, after making an amazing comeback, the 25-year-old star player took to X and shared a congratulatory message. Gill praised his team’s mindset and how they bounced back after the loss. He expressed pride in the players and encouraged them to keep pushing for a top-two finish.

The Titans are one of the strongest teams this season. No team has been able to figure out how to dismiss their top three. Sudarshan, Gill, and Buttler are all in the Orange Cap race, which only strengthens the team. Their next match is against the in-form Mumbai Indians, who are on a six-game unbeaten streak. It will be interesting to see who strengthens their case for a top-two finish.
