Coco Gauff Makes Her Feelings Known After Victory in Montreal: “It’s Not My Best, But It’s Good Enough for Today”

Coco Gauff continues to show why she’s one of the brightest young stars in tennis. In Montreal, the 20-year-old American powered through a tough match against Veronika Kudermetova to advance to the next round, proving that even on days when she doesn’t feel her best, she still finds a way to win.

The goal of the game is to survive and advance,” Gauff said with a smile after her win. “It’s not my best but it’s good enough for today. That’s all I can ask for.

Notably, it wasn’t the cleanest match from Gauff. However, what stood out more was her determination to keep pushing forward.

After her last match, Gauff admitted she was tough on herself, criticizing her own performance despite the win. When asked if she’d be kinder to herself this time, she said:

Uhhh… I’m sure everyone can read my body language, so I don’t think I’m gonna be that nice to myself. Mentally I’m very proud of myself. There are obviously parts of my game I have to work on and one of those is the serve.”

Still, Gauff’s ability to win without playing her A-game is exactly what fans love about her.

“The fact I’m winning these matches not feeling my best is something to be proud of,” she added. “I only can look forward to the future when I am feeling my best… hopefully it’s a bit easier.”

At just 21, Gauff has already achieved incredible heights in her career, and her run in Montreal is another testament to her growing consistency.

As the tournament continues, fans can expect Gauff to keep pushing herself, not just for wins, but for growth. And if this is her version of an “off day,” the future is looking very bright for her.
