Chelsea Green is one of the most talked-about superstars in WWE. Although she wasn’t successful in her first run with the company, her fortunes changed after her return in the Royal Rumble, where she became the first-ever Women’s U.S. Champion. Her husband, Matt Cardona, is on a similar path, having reinvented himself in the independent circuit.
However, the former Intercontinental Champion is surprised by the fact that he still hasn’t received a call from WWE. Cardona talked about it in an interview with Chris Van Vliet on his show The Insight. He felt that despite achieving success on the independent circuit, he was missing something. The former Zack Ryder further added that many people asked him when he was returning to WWE, and all he could say was that it’s not up to him.
“It makes me sick to say because I feel like I’ve said it so many times, but it’s the truth. But obviously I’m missing something, I don’t know what it is… Thousands of people, probably every other fan, if not every fan. ‘When are you coming back?’ Well, it’s not up to me.”

Cardona admitted that, thanks to his wife, Chelsea, he got to stay at a great hotel. The former I.C. Champion then went on to say that he had reached out to WWE a few times. Although he mentioned that everything was nice and professional, there was still no offer from the Stamford-based company. The 40-year-old wrestler accepted the reality and promised that he would continue to work hard.
His last match in WWE was nearly five years ago, where he wrestled Bobby Lashley and lost. On April 15th, Cardona and his tag team partner, Curt Hawkins, were both released from the company. During the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE released many superstars as part of budget cuts. The release marked the end of his 15-year tenure with the company.

Speaking on The Insight, the infamous WWE Internet Champion said that he was very proud of her. Cardona revealed that he had seen her struggle and work hard to reach the position she is in today. The former I.C. Champion stated that although Green had all the components to become a star, she didn’t get enough opportunities to show her full potential during her first run with the company.
“Oh my god. So proud of her. Like, I’m her biggest fan. She doesn’t care about the merch. I get all her trading cards, all her action figures, and all her shirts. I’m super proud of her. She was killing it in the Indies, and when she got a call back, she had to go back.”

Green proved everyone wrong by becoming the first-ever Women’s United States Champion on December 14 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Fans are excited to see the couple in WWE once again if Cardona receives an offer from the Stamford-based company in the future.
