Kevin Owens, who seems to have a history of not coexisting with his friends, has done the same again. He has had the same issues with Sami Zayn and even Chris Jericho. This time, after several months of teaming up with the viper Randy Orton and working together, he ended up turning on the Apex Predator to set up this match.
Owens was originally having problems with the WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes. However, he attacked his partner Randy Orton, who sincerely preferred Cody over him. This rivalry could have easily gotten more depth, but since Kevin Owens was not allowed to be present on multiple episodes of Smackdown, neither of these men has gotten much physical with each other.
At Crown Jewel, it was evident that Kevin Owens could not wait to get his hands on his former friend as he attacked him during his entrance itself. He viciously hit him behind with a steel chair on his knee. The two men brawled around the ringside area for a while, with Randy Orton even going through the announcers’ table.
The Prizefighter even ended up hitting the referee with a stunner when he snatched the steel chair away from him. The Viper, however, struck back like he always does; he delivered an RKO to Raw General Manager Adam Pearce before both men again started fighting in the crowd. Kevin Owen put Randy Orton through some tables with a flying elbow to end the whole fight.
What’s the future of this rivalry?
After the all-out war at Crown Jewel, this rivalry looks far from over. It was not a decisive brawl as both men suffered a lot of brutality. Most probably, this rivalry will continue to take place in future episodes of Friday Night Smackdown.
Both of these men are former World Champions and have achieved a lot in their respective careers as well. It is believed that WWE did not want to end this rivalry at this very event but wanted to carry this rivalry into one of the big four events. It will be very interesting to see how this rivalry unfolds in the future.
