WWE Hall of Famer reveals how Roman Reigns’ frustration led to the creation of The Bloodline

Paul Heyman has been one of the greatest managers in professional wrestling history. There have been multiple clients like Brock Lesnar and CM Punk who have worked with him. However, his time with Roman Reigns will be one of the most historic periods in professional wrestling.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Heyman revealed how the whole storyline of him and Roman coming together took place. He mentioned that Reigns had become very frustrated with the creativity that he had to work with at that period of time. He was looking for something new and fresh. Heyman, at that period of time, was also dismissed as the executive director of Monday Night Raw.

Due to COVID, Brock Lesnar had also refused to wrestle and had gone back home. Hence, Heyman and Roman Reigns both had nothing much to do, respectively. They then went ahead and pitched the idea, which was approved by the company. The two men had discussed a faction similar to the Bloodline 7-8 years prior to it happening. It seems like Paul Heyman has proved once again why he is known as one of the smartest brains in the wrestling business.

Ever since the two men have aligned together, they have come up with amazing storylines. Their chemistry on screen is also very good. It seems that the two men don’t only share a good relationship in the ring, but also outside. Heyman also mentioned that during the Covid period, the absence of the fans allowed them to try out different presentations, which made it simpler for them.

Paul Heyman reveals how important it is for talent to give inputs regarding their character

Paul Heyman, along with being a manager, is also a mentor for superstars backstage. He has been known widely for coming up with very creative ideas for multiple superstars. However, Heyman mentioned that a superstar cannot take up a character without having the freedom to control it.

During his interview with Screen Rant, Heyman mentioned that all the big names in the past had a lot of creative control over their characters. They would dictate what type of personality the character would carry towards the ring. Even though the whole storyline is finalized by Triple H, talent having control over their character brings out their best performances.

I can attest to the fact that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock were very hands-on with their creativity at their height. I’ve seen John Cena for hours discuss different aspects of how his persona would address certain circumstances. It’s the same way with Roman Reigns and The Bloodline.

With WWE now moving away from Vince McMahon era, Triple H has given talent more freedom than ever. This can be an explanation for superstars being more into their characters and playing their roles perfectly. They also have a lot of mentors to guide them, with people like Paul Heyman and CM Punk around.
