“Fired you on your wedding day”, Drew McIntyre reveals what he actually wanted to say during intense promo battle with CM Punk

The March 25th, 2024, episode of Raw took place at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. CM Punk returned to his hometown, creating a buzz among fans. Alongside Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, he delivered one of the year’s most memorable segments. Although their three-way promo had some awkward moments, the audience found it highly entertaining.

In an interview with Inside The Ropes, McIntyre was asked about his thoughts during the segment. Specifically, he was questioned about Punk’s jab at Vince McMahon and his reference to McIntyre’s nickname, ‘The Chosen One.’ McIntyre revealed he wanted to respond by pointing out that McMahon, who gave him the nickname, was the same person who fired Punk on his wedding day. However, he chose to remain silent during the segment.

McIntyre explained that he stayed professional and held back from retaliating. He also noted that this was when people began to recognize his skills as a mic performer. The former WWE Champion believes those familiar with his work outside WWE know how effective he is when he’s free to speak without restrictions. He expressed confidence in his ability to hold his own against anyone, including Punk, in a verbal exchange.

Nearly a year later, McIntyre and Punk are set to face off again. Both will compete in the Elimination Chamber on Thursday alongside four other superstars. Their rivalry has intensified, with both determined to headline WrestleMania and claim the WWE Championship. The stakes are higher than ever as they prepare for another showdown.

Drew McIntyre revealed more about his three-way segment with CM Punk and Seth Rollins

In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Drew McIntyre pointed out that CM Punk’s eyes during their segment with Seth Rollins told a story. Punk slowly realized that McIntyre wasn’t the same wrestler he had known years ago. The Chicago native saw that the 39-year-old was fully prepared, and the two exchanged sharp, unscripted lines throughout the segment.

McIntyre emphasized that their promos weren’t pre-written. The tension between them was real, as they genuinely didn’t like each other. This dynamic was heightened by the electric atmosphere of Chicago, making their exchange even more intense.

When Punk made his remark about Vince McMahon, McIntyre faced a choice. He could fire back and escalate the situation, or he could hold back and stay professional. He chose the latter, not for Punk’s sake, but out of respect for the company he represented.
