During the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown, one more superstar announced himself for the Royal Rumble match. Rey Mysterio, who is a legend around the globe, declared himself for the match. However, Kevin Owens cut short his time alone in the ring.
Owens interrupted the WWE Hall of Famer and said that it was his dream match to face Rey Mysterio. He further asked Rey to promise him that if he won the Rumble match, then Owens would be the champion who he chose to face. Mysterio respectfully told Owens that he was not the champion, which triggered him. Owens was then yelling at Rey, saying that he was brainwashed by Cody Rhodes. Rey told Owens he was like Mysterio’s son Dominik and called him delusional, which further triggered KO. The two men later faced each other in a single match.
During the match, Rey’s daughter was seated at ringside. Owens purposely seemed to drag him there and started to even taunt his family. He even hit Rey’s head on the barricade where they were seated. However, Rey’s daughter shockingly smiled through all that.
It seems like Kevin Owens was looking to make it more personal and insult Rey. He even seemed very offended when he was compared to Dominik Mysterio during the promo. The match ended with Owens delivering a pop-up powerbomb to Rey to pick up the win.
It seemed like Owens felt highly disrespected by Rey. The former Universal Champion attacking him in front of his family was a clear sign of it. The 40-year-old is preparing to face Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event.
Kevin Owens stopped from delivering a banned move on Rey Mysterio
Kevin Owens recently has been delivering the Package Piledriver on multiple superstars. This move has led to him putting superstars out of action for some period of time. The most recent victim was the WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. However, he was quick to recover from the damage.
Recently on SmackDown, after Kevin’s match with Rey Mysterio, he at first was looking like he was going to give him respect. However, it was completely the opposite as he was about to deliver that move on him. Mysterio would have potentially been out of the Royal Rumble had it not been for Cody Rhodes coming to save him.
The two men have been in a rivalry for almost two months now. Their ladder match at the Royal Rumble event will most likely be the last part of the rivalry. The two men are very keen on destroying each other at the moment. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious on 1 February 2025.
