Next weekend in Los Angeles, John Cena will join forces with Logan Paul to take on Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. These combatants came face-to-face on this week’s SmackDown. First off, it was The American Nightmare who received a hero’s welcome. Rhodes talked about going home after the WrestleMania debacle and asking one of his close friends whether he had been a good champion.
The ex-AEW EVP got the validation he was looking for, given the circumstances he was put through. Rhodes even broached the subject of The Rock making an offer to him earlier this year about selling his soul, which, according to the North Carolina native, is still on the table. After badmouthing Cena, Rhodes brought Jey out to everyone’s delight.
Uso’s encore of his entrance was interrupted by Cena, who went on to call the babyfaces the biggest wannabes in professional wrestling — and called himself the biggest actor wannabe. The Undisputed WWE Champion also had Logan Paul up his sleeve. The Maverick came out and was praised by Cena as the epitome of hustle, loyalty, and respect.
The Franchise Player added that Paul had the fame and followers to back it up. The Westlake-born influencer then talked trash about the people of Tennessee. Once Uso had had enough, he challenged Cena and Paul to duke it out right then and there. The Franchise Player wasn’t interested and told his partner to retreat as well, but Paul had other plans.
He inadvertently shoved Cena, and it seemed as if they were about to come to blows. Just then, Rhodes quibbled about their argument being Paul going back and polishing Cena’s Peacemaker. What followed was a brawl where the babyfaces eventually stood tall. It was certainly a nasty diss from the Prodigal Son.
Cody Rhodes promised to rectify previous mistake against John Cena on SmackDown
Cody Rhodes wasn’t outclassed by John Cena by any stretch at WrestleMania. The Prodigal Son, however, lost his WWE title. He couldn’t pull the trigger when he had the opportunity, and that cost him dearly. Rhodes hesitated to stoop to underhanded tactics and decided against decking Cena’s skull with the diamond-encrusted WWE belt.
But when the Hollywood mogul had the opportunity, he seized it and dethroned The American Nightmare with an assist from Travis Scott. On this week’s SmackDown, Rhodes affirmed that he might have hesitated last time, but it won’t happen again.
Moreover, the 39-year-old is clearly gunning for a rematch against Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect. Also, it seems like WWE has pulled back on Scott’s further involvement in Cena’s farewell tour. However, the rapper is reportedly in WWE’s plans for making an appearance at Money in the Bank. It’d be interesting to see how everything pans out.
