Gunther Sends a Message to CM Punk After He Wins the Gauntlet Match on Raw

After defeating the legendary Bill Goldberg in his retirement match, Gunther was looking for his next opponent. A five-man Gauntlet Match was announced on the latest episode of Raw to determine who would face the Ring General for the World Heavyweight Title at SummerSlam. After CM Punk survived the wrath of Bron Breakker, he earned a chance to go for the title once again at the biggest event of the summer.

However, many things transpired before the Gauntlet Match took place. The Ring General came out and boasted about retiring Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He was soon interrupted by Paul Heyman and Breakker, who taunted him and claimed that the former NXT World Champion would win the Gauntlet Match and challenge him at SummerSlam. Fans became extremely excited after witnessing an intense face-off between Breakker and Gunther.

After the show ended, the former Imperium leader shared a message that targeted everyone. He took to Instagram and posted a picture from the show, also featuring Breakker and Heyman. Gunther wrote a caption claiming that he had retired Goldberg and silenced Heyman. He also warned his SummerSlam opponent, Punk, to be prepared for the consequences.

“Retired Goldberg. Silenced Heyman. Punk, prepare.”

Gunther on Instagram

For those unaware, Punk and Gunther were involved in a heated moment a week before Saturday Night’s Main Event. While the Best in the World was focused on attacking Seth Rollins, Gunther tried to intervene. However, Punk was not in the mood and shoved the World Champion down, much to the latter’s surprise. It’s a no-brainer that Gunther will take that insult into account when he steps into the ring with the Second City Saint.

Gunther Is Rumoured To Be John Cena’s Last Opponent

The big game that Gunther talked about with Goldberg in recent weeks didn’t seem like blatant lies the moment he put the Icon to sleep in Atlanta. The former NXT UK Champion kept his word and never looked vulnerable enough to fall to an upset of massive proportions.

After retiring one legend, he might be on to another. According to WRKD Wrestling, the 37-year-old is expected to be John Cena’s final opponent in December. It’s something WWE had been planning for a long time. In fact, at one point, there were even talks of doing the match at WrestleMania 41, but things couldn’t fall into place.

The Cenation Leader is currently set to defend his Undisputed WWE Title against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. If his loss to Rhodes eventually turns Cena back into a babyface, he could tell a compelling story with a full-blown villain like Gunther. Fans are already excited about their on-screen interactions.
