During the recent episode of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes challenged Kevin Owens to a ladder match at the Royal Rumble PLE.
It was made official by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis at the moment itself. The rivalry between the two men has been boiling over for some time now. It seems like we will be getting the conclusion to the whole rivalry in the ladder match. KO is currently in possession of the Winged Eagle WWE Championship, which he stole from Cody at the Saturday Night Main Event PLE. Both Cody’s original championship belt and Owen’s championship belt will be hanging over both men at the event.
The return of Randy Orton may also be a possibility during the match. Before the whole conflict started, Orton and Owens used to be the best of friends on screen. The headquarters of AEW is located in Jacksonville, which was the location of a WWE house show. During the house show, Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes face each other in a steel cage match for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Before the match could begin, Owens cut a promo after his entrance. He mentioned to the fans in Jacksonville that he understood they had to go through a lot of trauma because of seeing Cody Rhodes wrestle for a long time. The fans in the audience even reacted positively to it. It seems like some part of the Jacksonville crowd had gotten frustrated with seeing The American Nightmare. However, a large portion of the audience was on Cody’s side, and they decided to react negatively to Kevin Owens.
The match between the two men ended with Cody Rhodes escaping the cage. He managed to retain his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens. The two men are scheduled to face each other once again. This time they will face each other in a ladder match at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event.
