Chelsea Green is known for being vocal in the wrestling world. She never holds back from sharing her opinions. Recently, she clashed with former WWE star Val Venis over transgender rights. Their social media debate highlighted their opposing views.
On March 31, 2025, International Transgender Day of Visibility honored transgender individuals. Wrestlers like Mia Yim and Chelsea Green showed their support online. When Mia Yim posted a graphic with the transgender pride flag, Green responded positively. Her comment, however, drew Val Venis’ attention.
Venis criticized Green and other wrestlers for discussing politics. He called the transgender movement damaging and said Green needed prayers. He also made offensive comments, claiming transgender people were confused. Venis suggested they should seek guidance from religion instead.
At first, Green ignored Venis’ remarks. Eventually, she responded on social media. She clarified that she wasn’t debating politics but standing for human rights. Green accused Venis of spreading hate and pushing an agenda. She also said she was praying for him, despite his harsh views.
Chelsea Green claims WWE passed on hiring her due to diversity quota
Green’s path to becoming the record-breaking U.S. champion wasn’t easy. She earned respect by winning titles in different promotions. Though she tried out earlier, WWE only signed her in 2018. She still advocates for more diversity in hiring talent.

During an interview with Click & Tell, the 33-year-old star explained WWE wanted a more diverse roster. Green said she relied on her wrestling skills and character to get noticed. She accepted not being hired at first, knowing it mattered to fans. She pointed to Bianca Belair and Xia Li as inspirations, with Li proudly representing her culture in WWE.
After her return at the 2023 Royal Rumble, Green kept fans engaged with her entertaining persona. Her hard work paid off when she beat Michin at Saturday Night Main Event. That victory made her the first-ever U.S. Champion.
I’ve had a lot of WWE tryouts where they’ve said, no, we’re not hiring that demographic and I totally respect that. We love Bianca because she brings something new to the table. … We had a Chinese Superstar, Xia Li. She’s no longer at WWE with us.
