Roman Reigns is one of the biggest names in modern wrestling. The brand name of Roman Reigns is so large that WWE kept him as their top superstar and champion for 1,316 days. The in-ring ability, along with the atmosphere he sets around the arena, is something that makes him a very big star.
Reigns was originally set to face his cousin Dwayne Johnson, famously known as The Rock. The match was scheduled to take place at WrestleMania XL. However, WWE had to change plans due to the outrage shown by the WWE Universe.
The fans were keen to see Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock as the man to face Roman. The former WWE Undisputed Champion recently commented on how he felt about this change in plan. During his appearance on SI Media Podcast with Jimmy Traina, Reigns said the following:
It didn’t matter to me; I was the main event no matter what. I’m the guy everybody wanted to dance with. I’m the hot chick; everybody wants to take me out.
Roman Reigns mentioned that it did not matter to him who his WrestleMania opponent would have been. Being an unstoppable champion made him the main focus of attention and not anyone else. At that moment, he was unstoppable and was also the company’s top champion. His angle with Cody Rhodes not only established himself as a top villain but also made Cody look like a top-tier babyface.
His match with The Rock did not take place last year, but many speculate that it might take place at Wrestlemania 41. Ever since Roman lost his championship to Cody, fans have not seen the Tribal Chief interact much with The Final Boss. Perhaps WWE might be saving their showdown for once Rocky returns and potentially challenges Reigns.
Roman Reigns opens up about not answering Paul Heyman’s call during his time off
Roman Reigns finally dropped the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. His reign lasted for 1316 days before being pinned by The American Nightmare at The Grandest Stage of Them All. After that, fans did not see him in WWE until SummerSlam.
In the same interview, Roman also opened up on the reason why he was absent for so long. He also talked about not picking up Paul Heyman’s calls during that period. Reigns unveiled the person underneath his character and the type of person he is outside the ring.
People ask… I’ve seen some of the speculation of, ‘Well, you know, you didn’t answer his phone calls,’ and all this and that, but at the end of the day, when I take my leave, there’s no question of what I’m doing. I’m recessing back to family, to change the hat, to put on that fatherhood hat, to refocus.
As per his statement, he wanted to give time to his family. WWE wrestlers are on the road away from their families for a long period of time. This makes them miss out on special occasions, which include parenting and seeing their children grow up. Roman Reigns made it clear that he wanted to prioritize his family after being away from them for so long. He also said that when he is away, he does not want to entertain any calls from work.
Roman Reigns is currently back in action and has reunited the Original Bloodline. They are all set to face Solo Sikoa and the New Bloodline at Survivor Series. There are a lot of family issues to be resolved, which will be taken care of in a WarGames match on 1 December 2024.
