Cody Rhodes triumphs over Gunther to become the first ever Crown Jewel Champion at Crown Jewel

The highly anticipated champion versus champion match that took place at WWE Crown Jewel 2024 did not disappoint. WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes pinned the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The American Nightmare was crowned the Crown Jewel champion as well. The match itself was a mixture of athleticism and brutality.

However, this match has not only boosted Cody Rhodes’ image but also done the same for Gunther. After a series of multiple moves were performed on each other, the WWE champion rolled up the World Champion in an attempt to escape the submission, which led to the pinfall. This ending of the match successfully protected Gunther’s image as a dominant champion since he was not defeated properly

Both opponents seem to have an equal amount of respect for each other, despite the heat between them for the past few weeks. There was a post-match and shake between the two rivals that solidified their image as champions of their brands. Such a small gesture added even more depth to their characters.

WWE had booked themselves in a corner when they announced this match. It seemed like one out of their two top superstars might lose a lot of credibility. However, the way the match took place and the way it ended has successfully protected and elevated the status of both superstars.

What’s Next for Cody Rhodes and Gunther?

As Crown Jewel 2024 is now in the history books, it will be interesting to see what next challenge both of these amazing wrestlers will face. Both men have held on to their championships for a while now and don’t seem to be losing them anytime soon.
Cody Rhodes

The American Nightmare has been the WWE Universal Champion ever since last WrestleMania, and he seems to be going strong. He has taken on multiple challengers and will definitely be looking for somebody to step up on the next episode of Smackdown. Many fans believe that he is not going to be dropping the championship anytime soon to anyone.

On the other hand, The Ring General Gunther has been world champion for 92 days now, and he seems to be unstoppable at the given moment. He even holds the record for the longest Intercontinental Championship reign before it was ended by Sami Zayn at WrestleMania. His dominance with the world title seems to not end anytime soon and will definitely be something to look out for on the red brand.

The Crown Jewel match between both of these talented wrestlers exceeded expectations. It left an amazing impression on the WWE Universe. While Gunther’s loss may raise a few questions, this match has benefited both wrestlers and the company as a whole.
