Novak Djokovic issues jaw-dropping take on continue working with Andy Murray after retiring from Australian Open semi-finals

Novak Djokovic recently retired from the ongoing Australian Open 2025 due to an injury he suffered during his quarterfinal match against young gun Carlos Alcaraz.

While going up against current World No. 2 Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic lost the first set 7-6 and straightaway walked towards the net to shake hands with his opponent. As he confirmed the mid-match retirement, a wave of shock flowed through the entire stadium.

While fans applauded Djokovic for sustaining the first set despite injury, few even booed at him. Later in the post-match conference, Novak confirmed he had a muscle tear, and that is precisely why he decided to stop there before putting more stress on his body.

However, during the post-match conference, Novak Djokovic opened up about continuing to work with his newly appointed coach and former rival, Andy Murray. That’s not all; Djokovic further went ahead to praise Andy Murray, stating that he will be thanking him for being there.

Novak Said, “I don’t know. We both were disappointed with what just happened, so we didn’t talk about future steps. We are still fresh off the court, so I will definitely have a chat with Andy and thank him for being here with me and see, you know, give him my feedback, which is, of course, positive, and see how he feels and make the next step.

As per the tennis star himself, the semifinal retirement was disappointing for both of them, and he would like to take some time off to cool down and then have a conversation about future steps.

Djokovic concluded, “You know we are still hot-headed and disappointed, so it’s kind of hard to switch the page and start talking about what the next steps are. I think we both need to cool off a bit, and then we’ll have a chat.”

With that being said, it will be pretty interesting to see whether Djokovic continues his partnership with Andy Murray for the rest of the season or if both of them will part ways just after the Australian Open. At the time of writing, Andy Murray has not given any official statement regarding the same.
