Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer banked on their batting and decided to bat first against SRH. Last match’s centurion Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave Punjab a flying start, scoring 89 runs in just the powerplay. While Arya got out on 36 off just 13 balls, Singh scored 46.
After failing to score runs in the last two innings, Iyer stepped up and capitalized on the momentum set by the openers. He partnered with Nehal Vadhera, scoring 160 runs in just 13 overs. Marcus Stoinis added a flourish in the final over, propelling Punjab to a score of 244. The Australian batsman hit four sixes off Mohammed Shami, who conceded 75 runs in 4 overs.
Punjab Kings fans would’ve been on cloud nine after their innings, as such a big target had only been chased once. But unlike other matches, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma fired right from the start for the first time this season. The destructive duo put up 171 runs without losing a wicket by the 13th over, making the chase look effortless. Head scored 69 off just 33 balls before getting out to Yuzvendra Chahal.
Despite the Aussie’s dismissal, Sharma continued the fireworks, with Heinrich Klaasen promoting himself up the order. Sharma became the third-fastest Indian to score a hundred in the IPL and recorded the third-highest individual score in tournament history, behind only Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle. SRH defeated PBKS by 8 wickets, chasing down the target with 9 balls to spare. With this win, Hyderabad moved ahead of MI and CSK on the points table, pushing both teams to the bottom in IPL 2025.
