Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill, won the all-important toss and decided to bowl first. That turned out to be the right decision, as the five-time champions lost both of their openers cheaply. While Ryan Rickelton scored just 2 runs, Rohit Sharma got out for just 7. However, Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav took responsibility and kept the scoreboard ticking without taking much risk.
By the end of the power play, MI had recovered from their early setbacks. The score was 56 for 2 wickets in 6 overs. MI fans would’ve liked to see the two go big, but the Titans made a quick comeback and picked up three wickets for just 9 runs. While Jacks scored 53 runs off 35 balls, Surya once again crossed the 25-run mark and got out for 35.
Unfortunately, no other batter crossed even 10 runs until Corbin Bosch came in. He scored 18 runs in the last over and helped MI post a respectable total of 156. The rain was just over the horizon as the GT batters came out to bat. In an amazing twist, Trent Boult got Sai Sudharsan out cheaply. At the end of the 14th over, the 2022 champions were comfortable, being 8 runs ahead on the DLS.
However, Jasprit Bumrah truly proved why he is considered the best bowler in the world. He took 2 wickets for just 13 runs in his two overs. While Gill got out for 43, Shahrukh Khan also couldn’t make a big impact. Young Ashwani Kumar also completed his quota of 4 overs, giving away just 27 runs and taking 2 wickets. The match was once again stopped due to rain, and Gujarat Titans were given a new target of scoring 15 runs in 6 balls.
Captain Hardik Pandya chose Deepak Chahar to bowl the final over. Unfortunately for the five-time champions, it turned out to be a poor decision, as Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee eased the pressure by hitting two boundaries in the first three balls. In the end, MI still dragged it down to just 1 run needed off the final ball, but Gujarat Titans completed the chase and are now at the top of the table. MI must win their remaining two games to qualify.
