The match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants was special for many reasons, but the highlight was the debut of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi as RR’s new opener. He impressed everyone with a brilliant knock filled with fours and sixes. Not just fans, even Google CEO Sundar Pichai praised him on social media.
Pichai took to X and shared that he had woken up especially to watch Suryavanshi bat. He was highly impressed by the young talent and called it one of the best IPL debuts. Suryavanshi scored 34 runs off just 20 balls, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes.
Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Aiden Markram, stumped by LSG captain Rishabh Pant. He got the opportunity to play in place of Sanju Samson, who was injured in the match against Delhi Capitals. It will be interesting to see if he gets more chances once Samson returns.
Reflecting on the match, it seemed at one point that LSG would struggle to even reach 150. However, Abdul Samad’s explosive 30 off just 10 balls completely turned the game around. Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel failed to chase down 9 runs in the final over, leading to RR’s second consecutive loss from a winning position.
Rajasthan Royals made big mistake releasing some of their best players ahead of IPL 2025
The 18th season of the IPL hasn’t gone well for the Rajasthan Royals. The inaugural champions are currently 8th on the points table, with just 2 wins and 6 losses. Many fans believe their struggles are due to not retaining some of their key players.
Last season, RR won 8 of their first 9 games, thanks to match-winning performances from key players. One of them was Jos Buttler, who was released by the franchise in favor of retaining Hetmyer. Recently, the Englishman scored an unbeaten 97 against Delhi Capitals, leading his team to victory. Buttler proved he’s still a valuable asset for any IPL team.
Two more players who come to mind are Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal. Both are performing well for their new teams — Boult for the Mumbai Indians and Chahal for the Punjab Kings. Chahal even delivered a Man of the Match performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
