Gunther has been a very dominant World Heavyweight Champion. Ever since defeating Damian Priest at SummerSlam 2024, he has been unstoppable. The big gold belt around his waist signifies the dominance that he holds. Gunther has defended his championship against multiple superstars.
This time he did the same as he beat two men to retain his championship. During Saturday Night Main Event PLE, he beat Finn Balor and Damian Priest in a triple-threat match. Multiple members of the WWE Universe thought he would lose his championship. In a triple-threat match, the champion does not need to be involved to lose his championship. This fear was not only with the fans but also with Gunther.
After retaining his championship, while he was walking back, he spoke to the WWE camera. He mentioned that it was wrong of him to doubt himself. The victory made him claim himself as the greatest champion. The Ring General even added that he would be the greatest wrestler forever.
“Why did I doubt myself all the time?” I was the greatest, I am the greatest, and I forever will be the greatest.”
It seems like there was some kind of doubt in the heart of the champion. Gunther, after retaining his championship, seems more confident as a wrestler. Defeating two superstars at the same time will definitely boost his confidence. His image as the World Heavyweight Champion has been solidified. Gunther will be keeping his eyes on the Royal Rumble PLE approaching soon. He might find out his challenger if his reign lasts till WrestleMania.
Former SmackDown GM predicts Gunther to retire Goldberg
Teddy Long was, for the longest period of time, the SmackDown General Manager. He has a very big reputation among the wrestling community. During his regular appearances On The Wrestling Time Machine talk show, while talking to Mac Davis and Bill Apter, Teddy Long talked about The Ring General.
He mentioned that Gunther could potentially be the perfect fit for Goldberg’s last match. According to Long, Goldberg has had an amazing career. Long said if Goldberg wanted to push someone before he left, he could do it for Gunther. The momentum he would pick up from the victory would cement him as a dominant champion for a long period of time. It would also give Goldberg his final match against the top superstar from the new generation.
If you got a guy there that you wanted to really push and you wanted to really do something with, then that retirement match, I’d put that guy over, get up, shake his hand, congratulate him, and wish him good luck.
Gunther would pick up a huge amount of respect in the wrestling world as well. Goldberg shaking his hand after the match ends will be a sight to be remembered. They are two superstars who are known for their dominance in the ring. Goldberg would also get the send-off from wrestling that he truly deserves. This type of booking would be beneficial to the rising superstar as well as the retiring legend.
