Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens went face to face for the WWE Undisputed Championship at Saturday Night Main Event PLE. The match was a very intense match that ended with Cody Rhodes delivering Cross Rhodes on a steel chair to Owens. Rhodes retained his championship despite a very tough battle from Owens.
However, the real drama unfolded after the match. Frustrated by the loss and the way it came, Owens attacked Rhodes. While Rhodes was celebrating with the fans, he had no idea that KO would attack him from behind. This became further worse when Kevin executed the Package Piledriver on Rhodes. The move has been banned from WWE. It has sent Randy Orton to the hospital earlier. This time Cody Rhodes became the victim of the move.
Multiple fans believe that the controversial loss was the reason for the attack. It was very clear that KO was screwed out of being the WWE Champion due to incompetent referees. This attack has left shockwaves around the WWE Universe. Owens put out a tweet after the match where he mentioned that he attacked Rhodes to send everybody home happy. Despite being the top villain of the company at the moment, he has a huge fan base.
Owens has clearly mentioned in his tweet that the referees are responsible for this. The only reason he delivered the Package Piledriver was to get retribution. He even left with the vintage WWE Championship belt. There was also an intervention with Triple H as he was leaving the arena. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds in the following episodes of SmackDown. As Rhodes is probably out with injury, what direction will Owens go from here?
Triple H likely to punish Kevin Owens for his attack on Cody Rhodes
Kevin Owens was seen trying to leave the arena with the Winged Eagle Championship. It was not until Triple H came out that both men started pushing each other. The confrontation was broken up by the referees. Owens was seen walking out with the title belt following the incident.
There has been no official confirmation from WWE regarding Kevin Owens’ punishment. However, in the past there have been consequences when wrestlers have thrown their hands on authority figures. The Game is known to be a very strong-minded person, and he will not let it slip by easily. Kevin Owens has also been using a banned move. This has sent two top superstars to the hospital.
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes is expected to be out of action for a while. It seems that the injury that he has suffered is for storyline purposes. This will allow Owens to get more individual time and build up heat. Him leaving with the Winged Eagle Championship will definitely add more interest to the storyline in the future.
