Novak Djokovic Reveals Why Jannik Sinner Apologised to Him After Reaching Wimbledon Final

For the first time since 2018, Novak Djokovic will not play in a Wimbledon final. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was defeated in the semifinals by Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who reached his first-ever final at the All England Club.

After the match, Novak Djokovic revealed a touching moment between the two at the net, where Sinner offered an apology for the Serb not being at his physical best.

“He apologized for me feeling bad today. There’s nothing to apologize for from his side,” Djokovic told reporters. “Obviously he’s done very well for himself today, and for the last year and a half, he’s been the best player in the world.”

Jannik Sinner now advances to his second Grand Slam final after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in Paris just weeks ago.

“He’s gonna have a chance to win his first Wimbledon title. I wished him luck, it’s gonna be his first final here and I’m sure he’s going to be super pumped,” Djokovic said. “After the final they played in Paris, I think the anticipation for this one is big. It’s amazing. They’re definitely several levels above everyone right now.”

Sinner’s win not only marks a new high in his career but also brings an end to one of the most dominant eras in Wimbledon history. Djokovic had reached six consecutive finals at SW19:

  • 2018
  • 2019
  • 2020
  • 2021
  • 2022
  • 2023
  • 2024

That streak is now over, with the 37-year-old bidding farewell to Centre Court for this year. As he waved to the crowd, the atmosphere was filled with appreciation for a champion who had given fans over a decade of remarkable moments on the London grass.

For Novak Djokovic, the loss might sting, especially given the injury setbacks he has faced this season. But even in defeat, he continues to show sportsmanship, humility, and an unwavering respect for the next generation.

And for Jannik Sinner, as he heads into the final, one thing is clear: the torch is being passed, and tennis is in good hands.
