Novak Djokovic-Andy Murray playful banter is taking over the internet

Novak Djokovic recently signed his long-time friend and on-court rival Andy Murray to help him prepare for the 2025 Australian Open. Needless to say, fans have been absolutely loving the chemistry between the two, and their recent banter on Instagram has gone viral.

A screenshot from Novak Djokovic’s Instagram comment section has been making all the right noises. In it, the two can be seen having a short yet playful conversation. For the uninitiated, Djokovic posted a picture from Lusail International Circuit, where he hung out at the Ferrari and McLaren stands and spoke with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. He also posted a picture with Idemo Nole.

To which Andy Murray commented, “He should be on the practice court.” As expected, fans spammed the comment with likes and replies, highlighting how Andy has been behaving like a true coach.

That’s not all; a few fans even advised Murry to be a little strict with Novak, as now he is not his friend but his coach. Interestingly enough, the Serbian replied to the comment saying, “Sorry, coach, I will be back soon.”

As expected, the little banter was an instant hit with Andy Murray’s comment, getting over 19k likes in no time. That’s not all; Djokovic’s reply got over 11k likes, along with quite a few replies as well. With the Australian Open on the horizon, it seems like Djokovic is eager to see his new partnership with Murray pay off and help him bag his 25th Grand Slam title.

Novak Djokovic reveals Andy Murray’s reaction to his ‘shocking’ proposal

Although 2024 proved to be a not-so-good year for the 24-time Grand Slam champion, the Serbian is all set for a new season and this time has his friend to help him out. In an interview with Sky Sports, Djokovic revealed Andy Murray’s reaction to his proposal.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion revealed how he was trying to figure out whether or not he needed a new coach.

Djokovic said, “I was going through a process of thinking about next season in the last couple of months and trying to figure out, uh, basically what I need at this stage of my career… So I took about six months to really think about if I needed a coach and, if yes, who that’s going to be and the profile of the coach.”

As per Djokovic, he wanted someone who has been through what he is going through currently and has won multiple Grand Slam titles.

Continuing further, he added, “So we’re going through different names, and I realized that the perfect coach for me at this point would be someone that has been through the experiences that I’m going through. Possibly a multiple Grand Slam winner and former number one. I was thinking about different people, and then Andy Murray, a discussion appeared on the table with me and my team, and they were like, ‘Okay, I’m going to give him a call and see how it goes,’ and it caught him a little bit off guard as well, because he wasn’t expecting it.”

He further revealed how they connected fast, and the collaboration is a surprise for them, just like it is for the rest of the tennis world.

The Serbian concluded, “We connected really fast, and he accepted it after a few days. I can’t be more excited about it. This collaboration is a surprise to me as well, to everyone, but it’s exciting for tennis.

With that being said, it seems like Djokovic is preparing himself for the ultimate test at the upcoming 2025 Australian Open. Would he be able to bang his 25th Grand Slam? Or will Jannik Sinner be able to defend his title yet again? Well, only time will tell.
