Madison Keys makes her feelings known about winning her first Australian Open title

In a rather shocking turn of events, Madison Keys becomes the only third American woman to bag the Australian Open. Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, lost in the finals of the Australian Open against Madison Keys 3-6, 6-2, 5-7.

As expected, Keys was thrilled with her victory and ran away straight to her husband after the triumphant win. With this Grand Slam, Madison Keys will return to her career high of world #7 when the new rankings come out.

The last time she held that ranking was in 2016. While giving a speech after the trophy ceremony, the American tennis phenomenon almost choked up and thanked her team, her coach, and her husband for all the love and support.

That’s not all. As the 2025 Australian Open champion said, nothing would have been possible without their constant support. They believed in her when she couldn’t. Well, that’s what it takes to bag such an impressive win.

Madison Keys said as the crowd cheered her, “I just want to say thank you to my team, and this is where I am going to cry. I’ve wanted this for so long. I’ve been in 1 other slam final. I didn’t know if I’d be able to get back to this position and try to win a trophy again. My team believed in me in every step of the way so thank you so much when I didn’t believe in myself and helped me every step of the way.”

Keys displayed a phenomenal performance, and this can be proved by the fact that her opponent Aryna Sabalenka heaped praises upon her during the post-match conference.

As she remembered last year’s struggles, the new World No. 7 highlighted her struggles with bad injuries and how she overcame those hurdles to bag her very first Grand Slam trophy.

Continuing her train of thoughts and emotions, Madison Keys concluded, “Last year was so tough with some bad injuries. And I didn’t know if I would be able to do it again, to be here and have this trophy and also be able to do it with my husband, who is kind of dazed and confused over there.

The World No. 2 even compared Keys level of play to Elena Rybakina’s and Serena Williams as she hit harder than anyone she (Sabalenka) ever faced in the Australian Open Final.

Sabalenka said, “Today, yes, today was a very fast, very deep, and very aggressive. Yeah there was, there was a great level from her. As I said, if she continues playing the way she was playing today, she could be in the top 5.”

That’s not all; the World No. 1, Iga Swiatek, even appreciated the 29-year-old with an Instagram story. With that being said, Keys’s victory was greatly appreciated by tennis fans around the world as she showcased some incredible power moves, causing past none other than the defending champion.
