Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have quickly established one of the most dominating young-age tennis rivalries. However, it’s not just the fans who are watching their matches. It turns out, so are the young guns themselves.
After his dominant straight-sets win over Tommy Paul at Roland Garros, World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz was asked if he and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner are subtly sending each other messages after taking over their opponents on opposite days.
To which, the Spanard said, “I don’t know [laughs]. Obviously I love to watch matches in my days off. And yeah, let’s say he’s inspiring me in some ways just to give my 100% every match.”
Taking about the the head-to-head between the two is currently tied at 4-4. Their five-set marathon at the 2022 US Open, has been consdered as one of the best matches in recent years.
He further added, “I see how important it is to play at a great level throughout the match and have more time to recover. I’m trying to do the same — staying focused the whole match.”

Sinner, who recently rose to World No. 1 after Novak Djokovic‘s early exits, has been in sensational form this season. Despite his recent rise, the Italian briefly found himself in headlines for the wrong reasons when he was linked to a doping controversy.
For Alcaraz, there’s no doubt that Sinner’s presence is pushing him to new heights. Both players are known for their all-court games, intense fitness, and mental toughness — and they seem to bring out the best in each other.
“I love Grand Slams,” Alcaraz added. “Because on my days off, I get to watch great matches and get inspired.”
While both young stars continue to dominate the ongoing French Open, fans can’t help but hope for a blockbuster final between the two. With their friendship, rivalry, and back-and-forth wins, Alcaraz vs. Sinner is quickly becoming tennis’ next great chapter after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
