Jannik Sinner is the new 2025 Australian Open champion and has become the only second player after Rafael Nadal to successfully defend this title.
He was up against World No. 2 Alexander Zverev. As expected, fans and other popular personalities alike well appreciated Sinner’s impeccable performance at the Australian Open.
From Rafael Nadal, Novak Djoković, and Carlos Alcaraz to his finals opponent Alexander Zverev, everyone seemed to be impressed with Sinner’s impeccable performance in the first Grand Slam of the year. However, Roger Federer’s agent, Tony Godsick, thinks a bit differently.
Although Godsick admitted to sensing some similarities between the Australian Open champion and the ultimate GOAT of tennis, Roger Federer, he doesn’t believe the young phenomenon can actually replace the Big 3. However, given how popular Sinner has become in such a short span of his career, he is on the right path to achieving great heights.
When asked about whether he believes Sinner can become a legend and can one day surpass the records of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Godsick said, “At the moment, as a global star, he cannot replace Federer or Nadal. But he is loved by the people; he plays a type of tennis that I like a lot, and he knows how to give his best in the moments that matter.”
That’s not all; he even singles out that one quality that reminds him of Roger Federer. Continuing his train of thought, he said, “I don’t know if he can become a legend like Roger or Rafa, but he is on the right path… He is serious, very professional, he behaves well on the court, and he does not do stupid things off it… In this, he reminds me of Roger.”
With that being said, Sinner, who is just 23, is a long way from achieving what the Big 3 of tennis have achieved, who have made tennis popular worldwide.
However, with the newer generation of players taking over, it is only a matter of time before someone like Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, or Carlos Alcaraz can take over the Big 3 when it comes to popularity, and who knows records as well.
