Andy Murray Makes Bold Admission on Being Regarded on Same Level as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic & Roger Federer

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has always been regarded as one of the most prominent names in the tennis world.

However, now that he has retired from the sport, the British tennis star has offered a humble reflection on his place in tennis history and how he views his legacy alongside legends like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic. Well, basically the Big 3.

In a recent interview, Murray candidly acknowledged the greatness of the “Big Three” and made it clear that he never saw himself as on the same level as them.

It’s not something I lose any sleep over at night,” Murray said. “I’m fully aware that what those guys achieved is far greater than anything I’ve done. I would never claim to be on the same level as them.”

Despite being part of tennis’s most competitive era, Murray made a remarkable career of his own.

He won three Grand Slam titles, including two Wimbledon crowns, became the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years, and spent 41 weeks as world No. 1. He also holds two Olympic gold medals and led Great Britain to a historic Davis Cup title in 2015.

Yet, Murray admits he didn’t fully appreciate his success in the moment.

Murray continued, “It was special, and I didn’t do a good job of celebrating those good times and acknowledging the achievements and stuff. I regret that. My perspective has changed hugely since I finished playing,”

Now 37, Andy Murray has battled hip surgeries and time away from the court, often fighting uphill to extend his career even as the sport evolved without him at the top. While he may not have amassed the trophy count of Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic, his presence in the golden era of men’s tennis speaks for itself.

He concluded, “I do look back and I feel proud about what I achieved. It feels like a really, really long time ago already.”

With that being said, there is no denying that whether he’s lifting trophies or offering insight from the sidelines, Andy Murray remains a champion in every sense.
