Complete Chaos at Backlash as John Cena retains with help of 53-year-old veteran against Randy Orton

The match between John Cena and Randy Orton went beyond expectations. Both legends showed the WWE Universe they still have plenty left in the tank. Once again, the 17-time world champion used dirty tactics to retain his title—this time with help from a surprise ally.

For many fans, this was the match of the night. It had everything—from Orton countering the AA into an RKO to both legends using each other’s finishers. The Legend Killer listened to the crowd and brought out a table. He didn’t just hit Cena with an AA on the announce table, but also put him through another one.

Cena acted like a typical heel, constantly trying to cheat his way to victory. But Orton managed to shut down every one of his plans. At one point, the match even involved multiple referees—when The Viper hit an RKO on Cena, there was no referee to count the pin. More officials rushed out to help get the original referee back on his feet.

Frustrated by all the chaos, Orton hit SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and the officials with back-to-back RKOs. In the final moments of the match, R-Truth ran in to save his childhood hero, Cena, from Orton’s Punt Kick. Although The Apex Predator took him out with another RKO, the distraction gave Cena just enough time to recover.

Cena hit the 14-time world champion with a low blow from behind, then knocked him down with the title belt. By that time, the referee had recovered and counted the pin as Cena covered Orton. With that, Cena retained the prestigious WWE Title by defeating Orton at Backlash. It’s safe to say fans may have witnessed the final chapter in the rivalry between these two legends.
