In a major shake-up at X (formerly known as Twitter), CEO Linda Yaccarino has officially stepped down after two years leading the company under Elon Musk’s ownership.
While speculation grows over who will take the reins next, YouTube star and philanthropist Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson has thrown his name into the mix. Well, and the internet is taking notice.
Yaccarino confirmed her departure in a public statement, reflecting on her time guiding the platform through its controversial rebrand and operational overhaul.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” she wrote. “When Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime… I’m incredibly proud of the X team – the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable.”
For the unitiated, Yaccarino joined X in 2023 after Elon Musk acquired the platform in late 2022 for $44 billion, aiming to revamp it into “the Everything App.”
In response to a post about Yaccarino’s resignation, Jimmy Donaldson took his opportunity to volunteer as her replacement. “I’ll fill the roll,” he wrote, sparking buzz across social media.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time MrBeast has expressed interest in the platform’s leadership. Back in 2022, shortly after Musk’s takeover, he asked Musk directly if he could become the new CEO.
To which, Musk’s response? “It’s not out of the question.”
MrBeast, currently the most-subscribed individual YouTuber, has become a global sensation not just for his viral content but for his extensive philanthropic work. From funding cataract surgeries for the blind to building homes, delivering water projects, and giving away millions in prizes, Donaldson’s is known as the king of YouTube.
Whether Musk would seriously consider him for the CEO position remains uncertain, but MrBeast’s ever-growing following seems to be unstoppable at this moment.
