It was the last match for both teams, and each wanted to win for very different reasons. While the Gujarat Titans were looking to finish in the top 2, the Super Kings were playing for pride. While Mhatre scored 34 runs at a strike rate of 200, Patel was dismissed for 37, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. This was easily the best batting performance from the five-time champions, and it came at the end of the season. Thanks to half-centuries from Conway and Dewald Brevis, the Super Kings managed to post a mammoth total of 230.
GT needed to chase a target of 231 runs to finish on top of the table. Their run chase, as usual, was heavily dependent on their top three. Unfortunately, the Super Kings dominated with the ball and dismissed the GT captain Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sherfane Rutherford for just 30 runs. While in trouble, Sai Sudharsan and Shah Rukh Khan tried to save the sinking ship.
However, CSK chipped away at wickets at regular intervals and knocked GT out of the game. They had a chance to avoid finishing at the bottom of the table if they had restricted the 2022 champions to below 121. However, they weren’t able to do so, and it was confirmed that they would finish the season in 10th position. The Titans were all out for 147 and lost the match by 83 runs. Now, their fate of finishing in the top 2 is no longer in their hands.
