Former WWE Champion Sends an Emotional Message After Liverpool Player Diogo Jota Dies in a Brutal Car Crash

The entire footballing world is heartbroken after a tragic single-vehicle crash in Spain on Thursday. The accident claimed the lives of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva. Liverpool superfan and former WWE Champion Sheamus is also mourning the heartbreaking loss. Sheamus posted a heartfelt note in memory of Jota on social media. Fans around the world are expressing grief and support for the family during this difficult time.

What would hurt even more is the fact that Jota got married to his partner, Rute Cardoso, on June 22 last month. She was the one whom the police called in to identify the dead bodies, per media reports. Moreover, the Portuguese star recently lifted the Premier League with his club and played a vital role in their domestic triumph.

Circling back to Sheamus’ love for LFC, he calls it a home away from home. He told the ECHO in May that it feels like his hometown of Dublin. The former WWE Champion’s passion for the Reds has grown even stronger over the years. It began when his uncle gifted him LFC memorabilia when he was just eight. Taking to X, Sheamus expressed he was completely shocked and heartbroken.

“Shocked & heartbroken. Rest in peace, Diogo. You’ll never walk alone.”

Sheamus on X

Speaking of his current status in WWE, the red-headed Irishman is feuding with Rusev. They collided in a ring-shaking singles affair on this week’s Raw. In what was hailed as one of the most physical WWE matches all year, the Irish grappler went down fighting to his Bulgarian counterpart. Impressed by their chemistry, the fans are hoping for these two to run it back.

Sheamus Recalls Convincing Triple H to an Epic Clash With Gunther

The first time Sheamus wrestled Gunther one-on-one was at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022. That event marked the moment when the Ring General reassembled Imperium, including himself, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci. Meanwhile, the Irish wrestler had support from Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland.

The Celtic Warrior and the Ring General delivered an unforgettable Intercontinental Title match at the Principality Stadium in Wales. Even Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave it a five-star rating. However, the instant classic might not have happened without Sheamus directly speaking to WWE CCO Triple H about it.

“The Gunther match to me is very special. That match wasn’t even supposed to happen…..I talked to Hunter about it, we spitballed back and forth, and then he went and made the match.”

Sheamus on The Pat McAfee Show

The former WWE Champion made the revelation on Pat McAfee’s show last year. In hindsight, it will be remembered as one of the greatest matches of Sheamus’ wrestling career. Even at 47 years old, he continues to outperform many of his peers by competing at the highest level.
