“I Wanna Express my Disgust” Current WWE Champion Strongly Criticizes the Concept of Money in the Bank

Seth Rollins won this year’s Money in the Bank ladder match and now holds the opportunity to cash in on any championship he desires. The current World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, expressed his clear disdain for the Money in the Bank concept, calling it a shortcut to a championship. He criticized the idea during a recent podcast appearance, explaining that he doesn’t respect a method that allows someone to bypass the traditional path to earning a title shot.

Appearing on The Masked Man Show, the Ring General expressed his dislike for such opportunistic behavior. Gunther reflected on past Money in the Bank winners and criticized the way they won titles. He hated situations where the MITB winner pinned a beaten opponent to become world champion. He saw it as ungratifying and unfair to the hard work of real contenders. Gunther claimed that winning the briefcase was never one of his goals or interests.

Talking about the cash-ins, an opportunity arose for the current winner, Rollins, at Night of Champions. John Cena and CM Punk were battling to write a new chapter in their iconic rivalry. In the final moments of the match, Rollins came out with his crew to cash in. He targeted the record champion, but chaos unfolded just as he was about to strike. Penta and Sami Zayn sabotaged his plans by taking out Bron Breakker.

“So, first of all, I wanna express my disgust for the Money in the Bank briefcase, whatever you call it — stipulation or — I remember back then when some of those big cash-in moments happened and some of those guys won a big title for the first time in their career and it’s because they run out with a briefcase and there’s an already beaten opponent who’s just, yeah… lay on top of him for three seconds. I don’t know. I never found that very gratifying.”

Ultimately, Cena took advantage and retained his world title, leaving both Punk and Rollins in distress. Meanwhile, Gunther is set to defend his World Heavyweight Title against the legendary Bill Goldberg. This will be Goldberg’s final match of his career, adding major stakes to the encounter. The match is scheduled for Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th. It will be intriguing to see if Gunther’s comments inspire The Visionary to do something unexpected.

Tommy Dreamer Explains What Went Wrong With Goldberg’s Response to Gunther on Raw

The fans witnessed both Goldberg and Gunther sharing their views about each other in different segments on Raw. ECW original Tommy Dreamer offered his thoughts on both men during the Busted Open Radio podcast. Dreamer was slightly critical of Goldberg’s sit-down conversation with Michael Cole on the show. In that segment, the WWE legend maintained an intense tone while verbally attacking his rival. Dreamer felt the delivery came off too harsh and lacked a more balanced approach.

The King of Extreme believes Goldberg should’ve been more humble while explaining his reason for targeting The Ring General. This was supposed to be his final WWE match, yet he came across as overly aggressive and prideful. Dreamer had concerns about fans seeing Goldberg as the villain due to his arrogant tone in the promo. He felt the delivery lacked humility and didn’t suit someone in Goldberg’s position. The Innovator of Violence wasn’t surprised to hear fans cheering Gunther as he trashed the 58-year-old legend.

“When I was listening to it… Goldberg came across more as the aggressor. We talk about tone and inflection. I thought it should have been more of a humble Bill Goldberg, then ‘I’m gonna kick your ass.’ All that stuff could come across as arrogant.”

The ECW great explained that Goldberg could’ve shown a more reserved and laid-back version of himself. It would’ve given fans a reason to root for a man nearing 60, returning for one final match. Dreamer stated that he was back to defend his family’s honor, not just for personal glory or revenge. He hoped the former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle doesn’t get booed in his last WWE match. He believed a softer, more respectful approach could have changed fans’ perception of Goldberg.
