“He didn’t even want to talk” TNA World Champion opens up about meeting John Cena at WrestleMania 41

Joe Hendry has become a renowned name in the wrestling industry. His popularity among fans has propelled his career to the next level. He is the current TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Not only that, he also fought against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41. The social media superstar revealed his conversation with John Cena after he became the 17-time World Champion.

While talking with Chris Van Vliet on his show The Insight, he recalled being backstage when Cena had just defeated Cody Rhodes for the WWE World Title. The Scottish wrestler also opened up about how Cena gave him some advice ahead of the Royal Rumble and said he believed he was going to be a big name in the wrestling industry.

Hendry further added that while he congratulated Cena on becoming the greatest of all time, he also wanted to give him another piece of advice. He shared that the Doctor of Thuganomics congratulated him on following his advice and on delivering a great performance at WrestleMania. In the video footage, the TNA World Heavyweight Champion was seen saying that the day couldn’t have gotten any better than that.

He’s just won the championship. I say, ‘John, congrats.’ He didn’t even want to talk about the fact that he just became the greatest. He wanted to give me advice, that’s who John is, right? He just said to me, ‘I told you exactly what you needed to do at the Rumble. You’ve taken it on board. You’ve done it. You had a good performance at the Rumble. You were brilliant tonight.’

Hendry is currently embroiled in a feud with Trick Williams. On the latest episode of NXT, both superstars met for the contract signing and exchanged personal shots. For the first time in WWE history, a TNA World Title will be defended at a WWE show. He will defend his title against Williams at Battleground on May 25. Only time will tell what the future holds for the Scottish wrestler.

Joe Hendry narrates how he managed to keep his WrestleMania 41 appearance hidden

An interesting fact is that Hendry wasn’t supposed to wrestle at the Show of Shows at all. He got the opportunity to fight Orton because of an unfortunate injury to Kevin Owens. Both Owens and Orton were involved in a heated rivalry, with each wanting to hurt the other badly. As The Apex Predator’s opponent was advertised as a secret, Hendry had to make sure the news didn’t spread.

While talking on the same podcast, the 37-year-old star revealed that he was picked up in a car at WWE World. Given how secretive the news of his WrestleMania appearance was, he had to change in the car. Hendry stated that he wore a Las Vegas hoodie, sunglasses, and a COVID mask and was covered from head to toe.

“So we got me in a car at WWE World. I had to change in the car, not into my wrestling gear, we did that at the building, but I had to change in the car. I got the most generic hoodie possible. So it was like, Las Vegas hoodie or whatever. I had a COVID mask. I had sunglasses. I looked ridiculous. It was covered head to toe. Honestly, I wasn’t even in the betting odds.”

The Scottish wrestler further revealed that he wasn’t even included in the betting odds. All these factors helped keep his appearance at the Show of Shows successfully hidden. Hendry had a great showing against one of the greatest WWE stars of all time. Although he failed to win against Orton, both stars shared a mutual respect after the match ended.
