“Picked up the sledgehammer”, Goldberg regrets a single decision that set back his career in 1999

Goldberg, a WWE Hall of Famer, has had a legendary wrestling career. Famous for his time in WCW, he might soon return to the ring. Neither Goldberg nor WWE has confirmed this yet.

There’s been much talk about his retirement match. Recently, Goldberg opened up about his biggest career regret. During an interview on *The Ariel Helwani Show*, he shared a moment he still regrets. It happened during his peak in WCW when he was unstoppable.

The incident occurred on December 23, 1999, on *WCW Thunder*. Goldberg smashed the nWo’s limousine window with his bare hands. The move caused severe damage—he needed 199 stitches on his forearm. Looking back, he admitted he should have used a sledgehammer instead.

I wish I would have picked up the sledgehammer walking out the door at WCW to smash the limousine instead of using my hand.

The injury derailed Goldberg’s career, delaying his planned storylines until 2000. He was supposed to seek revenge on the nWo and reclaim the WCW Championship. Still, Goldberg said the mistake taught him a lesson and made him a better person. He has tried to grow from it ever since.

Goldberg confirms 2025 to be his retirement year

Goldberg has announced that he will retire in 2025. His final match is set for that year, but the exact date remains unknown. The former Universal Champion confirmed 2025 as his last year in wrestling. However, rumors say he hasn’t been cleared to compete due to health issues.

The wrestling legend last appeared at WWE Bad Blood in 2024. There, he had a heated exchange with Gunther, the current World Heavyweight Champion. Fans speculate Gunther could be Goldberg’s last opponent. But Gunther is currently feuding with Jey Uso. The Royal Rumble 2025 winner will face Gunther at WrestleMania 40 for the title.

Goldberg revealed he recently underwent stem cell surgery for shoulder problems. He claims he will recover soon and return to the ring. However, reports say his medical team hasn’t cleared him yet. This raises doubts about his comeback timeline.
