“I would consider going back,” Chris Jericho teases WWE return after years of being top star in AEW

Professional wrestling in America is thriving like never before. With AEW and WWE competing fiercely, wrestlers now have more career choices. Chris Jericho, one of AEW’s earliest signings, recently discussed possibly returning to WWE. His comments have sparked speculation among fans.

At a recent Horror Rock and Wrestle Fest event, Jericho didn’t dismiss a WWE comeback. He praised AEW’s growth since its launch but admitted he’d consider WWE if the offer was right. Jericho’s current AEW contract is reportedly in its final year, adding to the uncertainty. His future remains a hot topic in wrestling circles.

Jericho last appeared in WWE at the 2018 Greatest Royal Rumble. He left after a disagreement with Vince McMahon and later wrestled for NJPW. In 2019, he joined AEW, becoming a key figure in the company. His departure from WWE was a major moment in wrestling at the time.

“There’s competition, there’s options—not just for fans but for the guys and girls. So it worked, it’s the best time for wrestling since the Monday Night Wars, great for fans, for talent, more money being made than ever before. So yeah I would consider going back there, I’d consider not going back too, depends on what the situation is, we’ll see.”

Chris Jericho on his WWE return

In AEW, Jericho made history as the first World Champion, helping attract new fans. Even at 54, he remains a top star on weekly TV. A return to WWE would be a major shift, following recent signings like CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. If Jericho goes back, he’d join a growing list of stars making surprise returns.

Chris Jericho loses ROH World Title in a controversial finish at AEW Dynasty

In October 2024, Chris Jericho claimed his ninth world title. He defeated Mark Briscoe for the ROH World Championship on Dynamite. After winning, Jericho kept his title with help from The Learning Tree. However, his tricks backfired last night at AEW Dynasty.

Jericho faced Bandido in a high-stakes match. The bout had a mask vs. title stipulation. The ending was controversial. At first, Jericho retained by hitting Bandido with a baseball bat. But the referees noticed his cheating after Bandido’s family intervened.

The match was restarted, and this time, Bandido won. He celebrated his victory with his family. Fans, however, were unhappy with how it played out. They criticized Jericho for not letting Bandido win cleanly.

Many felt the finish was too messy. Jericho’s tactics overshadowed Bandido’s moment. The backlash was swift, with fans calling for fairer endings in future matches. Despite the win, the controversy left a sour taste.
