Bill Goldberg Breaks Silence on His Current Relationship with Brock Lesnar

Legendary wrestler Bill Goldberg is about to compete in his final match for WWE. He is exercising and getting into the ring shape he needs in the near future. The 58-year-old recently spoke on The Claw Pod to discuss a range of subjects. The Tulsa native was asked about his current friendship with Brock Lesnar later in the interview.

According to Goldberg, they have long been friendly and respectful toward one another. Da Man praised his WWE opponent for being a fiercely competitive person who never lets up. Furthermore, Goldberg joked that their friendship wasn’t over just because they don’t communicate and that The Beast’s satisfaction comes from distancing himself.

Goldberg and Lesnar are among the few wrestlers who have had the chance to face each other in the ring twice at WrestleMania. At WrestleMania XX, where Stone Cold Steve Austin served as the special guest referee, they faced off for the first time. In the end, Lesnar lost that night.

“We’re good friends man. We don’t keep in contact that much because he’s a recluse. His enjoyment is keeping away from the human race.”

The stars aligned for them to clash once more on the biggest stage, thirteen years later. After taking several years off from WWE, both superstars made a comeback in the 2010s. Lesnar exacted revenge for his 2004 Mania defeat by defeating the Hall of Fame, the then-Universal Champion, at WrestleMania 33. Before prevailing over Goldberg, The Beast Incarnate had suffered a crippling embarrassment. At the 2016 Survivor Series, the latter defeated the ten-time world champion in just 86 seconds.

Goldberg wanted to have his retirement match in Israel

While not confirmed, Bill Goldberg is reportedly set to have his WWE retirement match on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. WWE has announced its next Saturday Night’s Main Event show for that date. It will take place at State Farm Arena, and Goldberg will get to compete in front of his hometown crowd.

However, in the aforementioned interview with The Claw Pod, the former Universal Champion said he had dreamed of retiring in Israel. But in the wake of the ongoing Israel–Gaza Strip conflict, the Hall of Famer had to step back from that plan. He is disappointed knowing that his wrestling swan song can’t be staged in Israel, the holy land for Jews. For those unfamiliar, he also has Jewish ancestry.

Even though that ship has sailed for now, Da Man asserted that being retired doesn’t mean being dead by any stretch. It seems the WCW legend is determined to do something in Israel once the situation de-escalates. Speaking of who could be the former defensive tackle’s final opponent, Gunther’s name has been brought up internally in that regard. The two were involved in a heated segment at Bad Blood 2024.
