Suryakumar Yadav showered praise on Punjab Kings’ opener Priyansh Arya after his fantastic century against CSK

Last night, Chennai Super Kings suffered their fourth consecutive loss in the 2025 season, courtesy of Priyansh Arya. The young, uncapped player held his ground as wickets tumbled around him, persistently scoring runs. He achieved the fourth-fastest century in IPL history, just behind iconic names like Chris Gayle, Yusuf Pathan, and David Miller.

However, it was not just the cricketing world that was impressed by his 39-ball century. The captain of the Indian T20I team showered praise on him on social media. Surya Kumar Yadav took to X and stated that Arya’s innings was a true treat to his eyes. An interesting fact is that the young player scored more sixes than fours.

His century and Shashank Singh’s fine fifty at the end helped Punjab post the target of 219 runs. In reply, CSK players did try their best and showed some intent, but it was not enough. Arya received the Man of the Match for his performance, and PBKS won the match by 18 runs.

Talking about SKY and his performance in this tournament, it seems he has finally regained his form. He has scored 200 runs in five matches, averaging nearly 50. Unfortunately, his team, Mumbai Indians, hasn’t done well—they’re currently in 8th place on the points table, with just 1 win and 4 losses from 5 games.

Priyansh Arya becomes the third Punjab Kings player to score a century against Chennai Super Kings

There is no doubt about the fact that the Punjab Kings’ opener scored one of the greatest centuries ever. It was the fastest-ever IPL century by an uncapped player. However, he wasn’t the first PBKS batter to score a 100 against the five-time champions.

In 2011, a cricketer named Paul Valthaty made a name for himself while playing for Punjab. He opened the innings alongside Australian legend Adam Gilchrist and scored plenty of runs. Among those was a memorable century against CSK, where he remained unbeaten on 120 while chasing the target. PBKS won that match by 6 wickets. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to an eye injury.

Another player who scored a memorable century for PBKS was the legendary Virender Sehwag. Many fans consider it the most important century in the team’s history, given the occasion. He smashed 122 runs off just 58 balls in Qualifier 2 against MS Dhoni’s CSK, helping PBKS reach the 2014 IPL final. Unfortunately, their fairytale run ended in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders.
