“6th trophy also loading” Mumbai Indians kicks Rajasthan Royals out to go on top of the points table in IPL 2025

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mumbai Indians hadn’t won at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium since 2012. They indeed came with the intent to win, as openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma scored more than 60 runs without losing a wicket. They didn’t stop there, as they stitched a partnership until the 12th over and scored 116 runs.

However, as the young South African got out, Sharma soon followed in the very next over. While Rickelton scored 61 runs off just 38 balls, the former MI captain scored another half-century with 9 fours. RR bowlers looked completely helpless as Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav batted till the end of the innings. Interestingly, both players scored 48 runs off 23 balls with a strike rate of over 200. MI posted a target of 218 in front of RR.

If the target of 218 was difficult, it became even more challenging when the last match’s centurion, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, got out for a duck. It quickly turned into a one-sided match, with RR losing 5 wickets in the powerplay itself. While Yashasvi  Jaiswal got out for 13, Shimron Hetmyer once again failed to impress, also getting out for a duck. Parag, Nitish Rana, and Dhruv Jurel also failed to score big.

With RR at 81 for 7, Jofra Archer tried his best to hang around and avoid an embarrassing loss. However, his fighting innings of 30 runs came to an end in the 17th over, as they suffered a heavy defeat by 100 runs. While RR bowed out of a disappointing tournament, all is well again for MI, as they are now on top of the points table with a huge boost in net run rate. Pressure now piles on GT and RCB to win their matches and stay in the top 2.
