Twitch megastar Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel has once again sparked conversation in the streaming world, and this time by calling out Twitch itself for inconsistent rule enforcement.
During his July 7 stream, the former Overwatch pro and one of the platform’s biggest names accused Twitch of relaxing its standards and allowing streamers to get away with the very same behavior that once earned him bans.
“Back in the day, I got banned for a rap music video showing booty like everybody else, alright? Banned. Done,” xQc said. “Even though the TOS on nudity, at the time, hadn’t changed, with the emergence of a lot of new streamers and more viewers, Twitch said ‘fck this.’ They did not change the TOS, but people stopped getting banned for that.”
xQc, who has often found himself at the center of Twitch-related controversies, claimed that Twitch’s Terms of Service (TOS) now function in a “grey area.”
“TOS, they kind of ghost changed. It’s just odd, it’s odd, whatever. I’m not going to cry about it, but I’m just saying,” he added, expressing frustration without directly accusing Twitch of targeting him.
The Canadian streamer, known for his blunt honesty, continued by expressing that he no longer sees value in strictly following the rules when others aren’t held to the same standard.
“I think it’s fine for me to say I don’t really give a shit about TOS and being on eggshells. I don’t give a fck. There’s no point doing that anymore because that would be me trying to be nice to Twitch, but nobody plays the game like how I play it because they don’t have to. So, there’s no point. It’s just lame.”
That’s not all; xQc also touched on the importance of updating Twitch’s guidelines around “endangering others,” especially in the context of controlled stunts or content.
“Why is it so hard to update the TOS to say ‘guys, listen, this is what we used to do. This is what we do now.’ It is not that f**king hard,” he said. “Twitch loves this grey area, right?”
With that being said, there is no denying that Felix Lengyel is no stranger to controversy. From previous bans and suspensions to his multimillion-dollar streaming deal with Kick, xQc remains one of the most famous streamers of all time.
Whether Twitch will address his comments or continue to operate in the “grey” remains to be seen.
