Tennis legend Bjorn Borg has praised Carlos Alcaraz, saying that the youngster is very persistent in following the path of his idol, Rafael Nadal.
Speaking about Alcaraz’s talent and capabilities, Bjorn highlighted that the Spanish player has both the skills and the mindset required to be one of the greatest players of the sport.
“I think he wants to achieve what Rafa did… he’s an unbelievable player,” Borg said. “He’s still very young. I think he will win more Slams. He has the right mentality. He can play on any surface.”
Carlos, who is already amongst the top players, has attracted the attention of many media houses, reporters, and fans with his powerful playing style, his court coverage, and calm game-play under pressure.
He has been compared with the great Rafael Nadal not just because they both are Spanish but because of the similarities in their game, intensity, and early success.
Carlos won his first Grand Slam in the year 2022 at the US Open, followed by his 2023 victory at Wimbledon. This shows Carlos’ versatility and adaptability across various surfaces.
The comments of legendary tennis players add to the predictions about Carlos being the next great player in tennis. Bjorn, who has himself won 11 Grand Slam titles, is known for his calmness on the field and a deep understanding of the game.
“Carlos plays with such confidence and maturity. He’s exciting to watch, and I believe he will only keep improving,” Borg further added.
With Nadal now retired and Novak Djokovic also in the twilight of his playing days, many tennis fans are looking to Alcaraz as the future torchbearer of the sport. If his trajectory continues, Alcaraz could well be on his way to matching—if not surpassing—the incredible legacy of his idol.
