After a trophy-less season, Manchester City is looking forward to signing some new reinforcements and also to filling the position of Kevin De Bruyne, who will be leaving the club at the end of this season after spending 10 years at Etihad.
As per reports, Manchester City is set to allocate 160 million Euros to sign two midfielders before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Manchester City’s top transfer target is the German midfielder Florian Wirtz. He has received attention from many European giants because of his consistent performance and exceptional playmaking abilities.
Last season, Wirtz contributed 18 goals and 19 assists to help Bayer Leverkusen win the league title. As per reports, City is set to break the English transfer fee record with a staggering £100 million bid for the German midfielder.
However, Bayern Munich is still in the race for signing Wirtz, with some rumors of the midfielder’s move to Santiago Bernabeu. Manchester City can close this deal with the allocated amount.
Tijani Reijnders: Bolstering the Defensive Midfield
In addition to Wirtz, City is targeting AC Milan’s Tijani Reijnders to reinforce the defensive midfield. The Dutch international has impressed with his versatility and tactical awareness, making him a suitable candidate to fill the void left by Rodri.
City is reportedly ready to offer around £60 million for Reijnders, who is also on Real Madrid’s radar.
Reijnders’ potential acquisition would provide City with much-needed depth and stability in the midfield, especially as they aim to compete on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.
The midfield revamp comes in the wake of significant departures from the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne’s exit after a decade-long tenure has left a creative void, while Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish are also rumored to be on the move. These changes necessitate a strategic overhaul to maintain the City’s competitive edge.
Under the guidance of new sporting director Hugo Viana, City is not only focusing on midfield reinforcements but also exploring options in other areas, including full-backs and goalkeepers.
Potential targets include Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and AC Milan’s goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
