Jannik Sinner Remains Grounded Despite Being World No. 1 at 2025 Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner may be the No. 1 tennis player in the world, but he’s still the same level-headed, witty 23-year-old. Well, at least judging by his post-match comments at the US Open, it seems like the World No. 1 got his hilarious side on.

After a straight-sets win over Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in the second round, Sinner was asked whether being at the top of the rankings changes how he views upcoming opponents.

“You’re through to play Pedro Martínez next,” the interviewer said. “When you’re World No.1, does it really matter who’s up next? Do you even bother?”

To which, Jannik Sinner added, “Of course,” he replied, with a grin. “It’s also my team’s job to prepare. As you see, they’re both on the phone. They’re not enjoying…”

As expected, the crowd burst into laughter. That’s not all, the video also got viral on social media, eliciting a plethora of reactions online. The hilarious comment reflected something that’s becoming a Sinner trademark: staying humble, grounded, and even a little cheeky, despite being at the very top.

Interestingly enough, the win over Vukic wasn’t entirely smooth sailing. The Australian’s powerful serve kept the top seed on alert throughout, especially in a tightly contested third set.

Playing against him is very, very difficult,” Sinner said. “Huge serve. I tried to return as many balls as possible, tried to be solid on the baseline. I struggled a bit to close it out. But I’m very happy.”

He made sure to thank the crowd too: “Arthur Ashe is such a special place. Thanks to everyone for staying. I know it was a long day. Every match is difficult, so I’m happy to be in the next round.”

Sinner now faces Spain’s Pedro Martínez in the third round of the ongoing 2025 Wimbledon.
