World No.1 Jannik Sinner has finally broken his silence on the doping case that briefly derailed his 2025 season. As per the tennis star, he received no special treatment during the investigation, and his innocence was consistently upheld.
Speaking during the ongoing Wimbledon Championships, Jannik Sinner addressed the controversy directly, making it clear he went through the same process as any other player. However, the only difference would be that he could hire a ‘great’ lawyer because of the money he ‘earned on his merit’.
“I was in a position to hire a great lawyer because I have the money that others do not have and that I have earned on my own merits,” Sinner said. “I went through the same process as the rest of the tennis players in the same situation. I have not received favourable treatment. Perhaps, my defence has been more effective because I have the best around me.”
For the uninitiated, the 23-year-old was provisionally suspended earlier this year after an abnormal reading in a routine anti-doping test led to an investigation by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). However, after a detailed review, no wrongdoing was found, and he was cleared to return to the tour.
“The ITIA takes the same time to give an answer to everyone,” he continued. “I know that there have been controversial decisions in the past, but my case was analysed in detail several times, and my innocence was always proven.”
Sinner’s public statement comes at a critical time, as he has been in remarkable form. Since resuming play after the ban, he has reclaimed the No.1 ranking, added another Masters 1000 title to his name, and has now advanced to the third round of SW19.
Though the doping case initially caused shockwaves through the tennis world, Sinner’s performance never took a bit hit because of it. Many of the tennis fans and fellow players alike have praised how he handled the situation.
Now deep into his Wimbledon campaign, Sinner appears more focused than ever. Can he finally bring Carlos Alcaraz‘s dominance in Wimbledon to an end? Well, only time will tell.
